Children's rights in China

UNICEF published a Special Edition of it's annual report The State of the World's Children to mark the 20th Anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 2009. It included a summary of the status of children's rights in China at that time (~700 words).

Children's Rights in South Sudan

In 2005, an autonomous regional government was established in Southern Sudan. It became an independent country on 9th July 2011, and is now the Republic of South Sudan.

Children's rights in Somalia

Up to now, Somalia, South Sudan and the USA are the only three member countries in the United Nations which have not ratified the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Children's rights in Afghanistan

Afghanistan ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in March 1994. Afghanistan's first report to the Committee on Rights of the Child was one of seven periodic reports assessed in January 2011.

Children's Ombudspersons in Africa

At the time of writing, there were two ombudspersons for children in Africa. In 2003, the island state of Mauritius, off the east coast of Africa, established an Ombudsperson for Children by an Act of Parliament:

Which was the first country to ban corporal punishment in schools?

It has been said that Poland first prohibited corporal punishment in schools in 1783*. However, since 1795 Poland has gone through many political upheavals and changes to its legislative framework. In Finland, corporal punishment has been unlawful in schools since 1872.
